My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding star Paddy Doherty facing sentencing over brawl

Traveler Paddy Doherty, who of course first shot to fame in Channel 4 show, My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding – and who subsequently appeared in, and won, last year’s Celebrity Big Brother – is awaiting sentencing on a charge of affray.

52 year old bare knuckle fighter Paddy got into a brawl with another traveler, his cousin, Johnny Joyce – aged 21 – last summer, and the fight was recorded on a mobile phone.

The footage, which was shown in court, showed Paddy and Johnny fighting in a Manchester shopping centre car park, each throwing punches and hurling abuse at each other.

TV Choice magazine states that on the mobile phone footage, a voice – believed to be Joyce’s brother – can be heard “encouraging Johnny”, saying, “Give it to him Johnny. Give it to him. Give it to the dirty drunk. Flatten that dirty tramp.”

The clip apparently ends with both men on the floor as Joyce bit Doherty’s ear.

Joyce admitted a charge of affray on June 10 this year, while his brother, Douglas Joyce, pleaded guilty to the public order offence of using threatening or insulting words or behaviour. The brothers will be sentenced on January 13.

Paddy also pleaded guilty to affray, but he will be sentenced at a later date “in order to keep the feuding factions apart.”
