After all the recent tabloid exposure her love life has received over the last month, all eyes at last night’s National Television Awards ceremony were scouring the room for Hollyoaks babe Jennifer Metcalfe, but to no avail!
Jennifer, who plays feisty Mercedes McQueen in the hit Channel 4 soap, found herself making headlines over Christmas when her long term partner, Dancing On Ice professional skater Sylvain Longchambon, callously dumped her by phone after admitting that he had developed feelings for his new celebrity skating partner, Coronation Street star Samia Ghadie.
Sources close to Sylvain and Samia, who also dumped her long term partner former Corrie star Will Thorp earlier the same month, insisted that the pair had not become an item following the revelation, but that it was only a matter of time before they did.
There then followed a string of stories suggesting Jennifer, who met Sylvain when she was partnered with him on Dancing On Ice two years ago, was hell-bent on revenge planning to sit front row of the hit ITV skating talent show, hosted by Olympic legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, as well as confronting Samia over the betrayal at last night’s O2 award ceremony.
However on the night Jennifer was nowhere to be seen as she was on holiday in Dubai to avoid bumping into her ex and his new partner posing for pics on the famous red carpet!
According to the Daily record, a source close to Jennifer explained: “She is on holiday in Dubai with her friend Leah Hackett. It’s a trip to have fun in the sun and get over her split from Sylvain.
“Hopefully she will be away a while longer because she won’t want to see pictures of Sylvain and Samia posing together looking happy.”
Meanwhile another source close to the Hollyoaks babe offered The Sun newspaper this explanation:
“Jen’s a feisty girl and wouldn’t normally shy away from them. But she’s emotionally exhausted and wanted a break before returning to Hollyoaks.”
Another face absent from the celebrity crowd was Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley.
Tyldesley, who plays scheming Eva Price in the award-winning soap had already bowed out of a TV appearance earlier in the day due to illness, and when it came to the ceremony she opted to stay at home, taking to social networking site, Twitter, to tell fans: “Absolutely gutted I’m missing the NTAs tonight. Just don’t feel up to it. Will be resting in bed cheering my wonderful colleagues on!”
