It seems that the bosses at Coronation Street are so pleased with how disabled actress Cherylee Houston has coped with her role, they’re to extend her contract and introduce her family as new characters.

35 year old Cherylee made history as the show’s first full-time character who’s disabled, and it seems that her character has proven so popular with viewers, that – although she was originally brought in only as a love interest for dopey Kirk – she’ll now be offered further storylines.

According to The Sun, Cherylee’s character, Izzy, will be seen later this year bringing her father, brother and sister to the famous Street.

A Corrie insider told the paper, “Cherylee is a great actress. She’s done really well and is absolutely perfect.

“We want her as a permanent fixture so we’re getting her a family to give her more scope.

“There are lots of exciting storylines coming up.”
