New pictures and spoilers from Downton Abbey Christmas special released!
Fans of Downton Abbey are eagerly awaiting the show’s two-hour long episode on Christmas Day, and ahead of it, ITV have released a couple of teaser images, one of which shows Lady Mary and Matthew Crawley dancing together.
Oo those daring young things! Mary will be showing her ankles next!
However, fans – this one in particular – are of course hoping that star crossed lovers Matthew (Dan Stevens) and Mary (Michelle Dockery) can make a go of things when we rejoin them at Christmas in 1919.
The Daily Mail reports that by the time New Year rolls around in Downton, Lady Mary’s fiancé, Sir Richard Carlisle (Iain Glen) is barely more than an unwelcome houseguest as love blossoms for M&M…
The paper adds, “The episode will also see the residents of upstairs and downstairs come together as they enjoy the servants’ ball and a night of dancing.”
And as was tradition back then, on Christmas Day, the downstairs staff will be waited on by the upstairs gentry as they enjoy their Christmas dinner…
However, there’s a shadow hanging over the festivities as the fate of Mr Bates (Brendan Coyle) hangs in the balance as he’s been charged with the murder of his wife.
The Mail also adds that in the Christmas special, we’ll see Lord Grantham’s (Hugh Bonneville) wife Cora (Elizabeth McGovern) reading his diary, and making a shocking discovery in its pages!
Perhaps she’s found out that her husband kissed housemaid Jane (Clare Calbraith) who subsequently did a 180 outta there…
But if so, what will she do about it??
I cannot wait for this show. Seriously, counting the minutes…

“The Mail also adds that in the Christmas special, we’ll see Lord Grantham’s (Hugh Bonneville) wife Cora (Elizabeth McGovern) reading his diary, and making a shocking discovery in its pages!”
The Mail took a still of Cora reading a book and put their own fanciful interpretation on what that means. She could just as easily be reading her own diary, or a novel.
