Nick Grimshaw replaces Chris Moyles as new Radio 1 Breakfast Show presenter – Olly Murs & Andi Peters lament!

After what seems like years of speculation, Chris Moyles has finally been replaced..

BBC Radio 1 has today announced that the once chubby now svelte DJ will be replaced on the daily breakfast show by young hip thing Nick Grimshaw.

Nick, who currently presents a night time show on Radio 1 (Sun-Thurs 10-midnight), will take over from the current breakfast show host Chris Moyles, who announced on air this morning that he is to step down in September.

Speaking about his new show Nick said: “I’m super excited to be hosting the iconic Radio 1 Breakfast Show, it’s been a dream of mine since the age of 11 and to be honest it hasn’t really sunk in yet. I love Chris and have always looked up to him as one of the best broadcasters ever.”

Ben Cooper, Controller BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1Xtra, said: “Nick is a great broadcaster with a passion for music and a mischievous sense of humour, which has made him a hit with our listeners. He will be an excellent host for Radio 1’s new breakfast show, bringing a new generation of listeners with him.”

Twenty-seven-year-old Nick has presented his current show on Radio 1, which features an energetic mix of new music, humour and guests, since June 2009. Nick joined the BBC in 2007 presenting shows on BBC Two and Radio 1, for the BBC’s former teen strand. He then went on to present the station’s weekend breakfast show from September 2008 before moving to his current show. Originally from Oldham, Nick’s first step into broadcasting was on student radio at Liverpool University.

Of course Moyles already has new projects in the pipeline and this autumn will take on the role of King Herord in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new production of ‘Jesus Christ Superstar.’

The composer recently admitted that he is considering having a fat suit made for the DJ when he starts the arena tour, as he has shed so many pounds of late.

Olly Murs and Andi Peters were quick to take to Twitter when they heard about Chris’ departure and Andi tweeted:

‘Gutted that @CHRISDJMOYLES is leaving Radio 1′s Breakfast Show.’

Olly added:

‘Awwww man I dunno what to do… @ChrisMoylesShow is ending!! I’m devastated!! What a show!! This can’t be true…’

Chris announced the news himself this morning, telling his listeners that he had quit his popular show. he said:

‘ “I wanted to tell you myself. I didn’t want you to see it in the newspapers or on Twitter.

“A couple more months of us. Then it’s someone else’s turn.”‘

Absolutly gutted loved listening to Chris on a morning made me laugh so much with his close to the edge humor, can’t see them improving ratings with Grimshaw I’ve listened to him before he’s just not that good he may play more music but will never be as funny as moyles
