O! Readers! Ruth Jones promises to write a Gavin and Stacey Christmas special, a’right?!

by Lynn Connolly

When Gavin and Stacey first aired, I somehow managed to miss every episode, but of late, I’ve been watching it from start to finish on Gold, and have fallen in love with it…

So I was horrified when I realized that there were only ever three series of the show, the finale of which featured a heavily pregnant Stacey (Joanna Page) and Ness on the verge of falling for Smithy.

Ness and Smithy were of course played by Ruth Jones and James Corden, who also wrote the show.

So it was a case of joy to the world when I read this morning that Ruth has promised to pen a Christmas special of the show in time for next year’s festive season.

I would be, quite literally, cock-a-hoop, if I only had a hoop and a…. yeah, well, never mind.

Anyway, while speaking to the Daily Star about the possibility of more Gavin and Stacey, Ruth revealed that she and James had originally planned to write a festive special for this year, but due to their various work commitments, they ran out of time.

She said, “We will definitely be doing another Gavin and Stacey. There was just too much occurring!

“We want to do a Christmas special but it keeps getting moved back…

“I would have liked to have done it this year, I have a new 10-part series and James has just started a play and has just become a dad, so we have been busy.”

As you may be aware, a very much slimmed down Ruth is about to appear in new Sky1 show Stella, in which she portrays a struggling single mum.

And it’s a far cry from the fun that Gavin and Stacey was.

Of Stella, Ruth said, “We wanted to get away from Gavin And Stacey, and Stella is a very different character from Nessa.”

Let’s take a look at a few clips from the – so far – only Gavin and Stacey Christmas special, which I’ve watched approximately 879 times now…

And just what the hell did happen on that fishing trip??

I love it, I actually love it 😉
