The countdown for Christmas Number 1 is almost upon us!

As ever, Christmas songs started making an appearance just before December as shops and radio stations began getting us in the festive mood, but which are the most popular?

Well, this weekend, the Official Charts Company have revealed the Top 10 Christmas songs of the month so far.

The race for the Official Christmas Number 1 Single begins at 00:01am on Sunday the 14th of December, and the winner of that all important No1 will be confirmed the following Sunday, 21st of December.

But thanks to streaming figures now being included in the Official Singles Chart – which they have been since July 2014 – Christmas songs stand an even better chance of entering the Top 10 overall this year.

However, the Christmas songs have a Top 10 of their own, and as mentioned above, the Official Charts Company have revealed which songs you’ve all been streaming so far this month.

Mariah Carey is in first place

Of course, they’re all songs that you’ll recognise, and by the end of the month no doubt be sick of hearing (some of them at least) but they’re classics and nothing can beat them.

In second place it’s Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’ which was first released in 1986 while ‘Fairytale Of New York’ by The Pogues featuring Kirsty McColl, first released in 1987 is in third place.

In fourth place it’s that Shakin’ Stevens classic ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’, first released in 1991 while Band Aid’s ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’ completes the Top 5.

Further up the top 10, Michael Buble’s ‘It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like’ is in sixth place while Andy Williams’ ‘It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year’ is in seventh place.
