Deja-vu. It’s that uncannily familiar feeling that something has happened before. As 2013 draws to a close, we’ve experienced quite a few moments of musical deja-vu this year. Some of the biggest names in pop chose 2013 to make their comebacks, but when they hit the charts again, many of the songs sounded vaguely familiar.
We decided to take you on a musical tour of songs that came out this year that sound remarkably similar to past hits. Featuring pop royalty, from Britney all the way to One Direction, have a listen to these tracks and tell us if you think there is any musical resemblance.
Now we’re not for a minute suggesting that these artists have stolen other artists’ work, no, not at all. We just thought the similarities between these were fairly amusing. On purpose or otherwise.Of course it’s always been the case of there are only so many chords a musician can play and eventually we will go full cycle as we run out of possible combinations.
Perhaps that’s what happened here or perhaps some stars have been subliminally influenced. Have a listen to these hits from 2013 that sound strangely similar to other songs, not quite identical….but not very different!
First up is Robin Thicke with ‘Blurred Lines’. The track does sound like Marvin Gaye’s ‘Got to Give It Up’.
The song sounds so familiar that Marvin Gaye’s family is reportedly suing Robin Thicke over it. Ouch!
Have a listen to both below but fear not, we’ve got some more!
Next is Bruno Mars’ ‘Treasure’ which was released only a few months ago and was lifted from his second album ‘Unorthodox Jukebox’.
Have a little listen below and then listen to the next song which is Breakbot’s ‘Baby I’m Yours’ we think you’ll hear the resemblance.
Up next we have Britney Spears with ‘Now That I Found You’ which sounds fairly similar to ‘Wake Me Up’ by Avicii.
Have a listen to them both below.
Similar right? What about One Direction? We can’t leave them out, not in a list of things from 2013. Afterall they have been one of the biggest things about 2013.
Remember their ‘Best Song Ever’? Go on, have a listen below and you’ll realise it sounds a lot like ‘Baba O’Riley’ by The Who?
We thought so as well and that’s not even considering their recent tune Midnight Memories which is strikingly similar to Def Leppard’s Pour Some Sugar One Me!
The next one was a big one for 2013 and was all over the internet. It’s Katy Perry with ‘Roar’ which someone discovered sounded quite like ‘Brave’ by Sara Bareilles.
This for me was the most obvious one. They are extremely similar. Let’s listen to them both.
What do you think? Have you heard any other songs this year which remind you of another tune?
Is it ok that they do?
