Oh no! Michael C Hall drama Dexter to end with season eight claims CBS exec!
There’s upsetting news from across the pond today as it’s been reported that the CEO of American TV network CBS has “let slip” that serial killer drama Dexter will come to an end with the conclusion of season eight.
Starring Michael C Hall as blood spatter analyst and serial killer Dexter, and Jennifer Carpenter as his detective sister Deb Morgan, season seven has just begun on FX UK, while season eight is currently in production.
However, The Hollywood Reporter claims that CBS CEO Les Moonves told attendees of a Wall Street conference in Florida that the show will end in June.
When asked about what lies ahead for the Showtime network, Moonves said, “We have Ray Donovan coming on with Liev Schreiber, which comes on with Dexter’s last season starting in June and then we have Masters Of Sex.”
Later year, Dexter executive and writer Scott Buck said, “We’ve been picked up for one more season, but whether that is the last one or not, has not yet been determined.”
Meanwhile, Showtime president David Nevins wouldn’t confirm or deny the report that Dexter’s ending, he did say, “There is a clear endgame in place.”
I’m gutted if this report is correct, but I guess that said, after the revelations of season seven – which I won’t give away in case you’ve yet to see it – there probably isn’t a whole lot more options open for Dexter…
And I would guess that if the end is nigh, it would be with either his death or his imprisonment.
If you were writing the show, how would you end it?
Here’s a reminder of the season seven trailer…
