Paddy Doherty’s sons’ Big Fat Gypsy brawl in court ends with a slap on the wrist!
The traveller community is of course a close knit one, and families within that community are even closer…
So when the man who beat Big Fat Gypsy Weddings and Celebrity Big Brother star Paddy Doherty appeared in court charged with assaulting him, Paddy’s sons were there to show solidarity towards their dad.
Simon, David and John Doherty were in the public gallery for the hearing earlier this year, in which Johnny Joyce – who is actually Paddy’s cousin – was accused of assault, during the course of which he nearly severed Paddy’s ear after biting it.
Joyce was sentenced to a term of imprisonment of 15 months after being found guilty of affray.
However, after the trial in June, Paddy’s sons left court furious at what they saw was the leniency of the sentence and yelled, “What about my f****** dad?” as a rival also screamed, “What about MY f****** dad?”
A fight then ensued outside the Manchester court, and yesterday, Paddy’s three sons were among eight gypsies who admitted charges including affray.
Judge Martin Rudland agreed and the eight were given sentences ranging from suspended jail terms to rehabilitation orders, which ultimately amounts to a slap on the wrists.
And personally, I can’t see that this will be an end to the matter, given that travellers notoriously bear grudges and consider retreat in the face of a fight to be weakness.
That said, would that change if they were given jail terms? Let us know what you think.
