Singer Paul Young has revealed that some fourteen years after the now famous chef Gino D’Acampo burgled his house, he’s forgiven him.
Gino, who has of course shot to fame in the last few years with a number of cooking shows, and his regular guest slots on This Morning, and an appearance on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here, carried out the robbery when he was 20 years old.
Gino – whose real name is Gennaro D’Acampo – was, at the time of the burglary, living and work in London, in mostly low paying jobs as a waiter.
He stole a £4,000 guitar collection from Paul’s luxury Mill Hill, house, as well as a prized platinum disc. Gino was caught after his DNA was found on cigarette butts that he’d dropped in Paul’s bedroom.
He later said that at the time he committed the robbery – for which he served two years in prison – he had simply “got in with a bad crowd” and bitterly regretted his actions.
And now, generous Paul has even offered to star alongside Gino in a TV show, or write a book with him, after Gino called him to apologise to him.
Speaking to the Sun, Paul said, “Gino wanted to apologise. I thought that was nice.
“He and I should do something stupid like collaborate on a show or a book.”
Paul made his remarks while attending the launch of Mike Read’s Pop Quiz show on music channel Vintage TV. During the press conference, Paul also revealed he’s releasing his own cookbook following his appearances on MasterChef and Hell’s Kitchen.
Maybe Paul and Gino could do a whole re-brand of the Naked Chef thing, given that Gino’s already used to cooking starkers…
Yep, not the ugliest thing I’ve ever witnessed for sure… 😉
