Can you believe that it’s just a month to Christmas? Panic!

But the good news is, this week, we get to see last Christmas’s Gavin and Stacey special again. I wish I’d got it on DVD actually so I could watch it over and over… hope you’re reading Father Christmas?

Anyway, without further ado, here’s what we recommend you take a look at this week. We haven’t included Friday’s Children In Need because, well, you won’t need a reminder from us that it’s on!

Monday

The Queen in 3D, 9:00pm, Channel 4

queen in 3dInnovative young cameramenb Bob Angell and Arthur Wooster filmed a 3D colour newsreel of the Queen’s Coronation that they named ‘Royal Review’. Bob and Arthur captured the Queen at the events she attended in the lead-up to and after the Coronation in 1953, including her journey to the Coronation itself.

This series includes this previously unseen, unique 3D colour footage of the Queen during her Coronation year, including Her Majesty at the Epsom Derby and a trip on the Royal Barge on the Thames.

Arthur and Bob reveal the story behind the making of the films while remembering the mood of an era. With other archive, current – and some rarely seen – 3D and 2D footage, the series revisits the life and times of Britain in the 1950s, a time that ushered in the era of Royals on television and began the cult of Royal celebrity.

True Stories: Which Way Home, 10:00pm, More4which way home

Which Way Home follows unaccompanied child migrants as they journey through Mexico on a freight train they call ‘The Beast’, hoping to reach the USA.

Rebecca Cammisa’s film tracks the stories of children like Olga and Freddy, nine-year-old Hondurans who are desperately trying to reach their families in Minnesota; Jose, a ten-year-old El Salvadoran who has been abandoned by smugglers and ends up alone in a Mexican detention centre; and Kevin, a canny, streetwise 14-year-old Honduran, whose mother hopes that he will reach New York City and send money back to his family.

Confessions of a Traffic Warden, 9:00pm, Channel 4

confessions of a traffic wardenStarting the very first shift of a new job can be nerve-wracking for anyone, especially if you face being sworn at, spat on, racially abused and even physically assaulted. These are some of the ‘highlights’ that anyone starting a career as a traffic warden can expect.

But with councils generating £1 billion a year from parking tickets, is it any surprise traffic wardens are motorists’ public enemy number one?

This film – made with unique access to Westminster City Council’s huge parking enforcement operation – follows new recruits as they learn the ropes and join the army of wardens patrolling London’s streets.

With most of them new to Britain, as well as to the job, the film offers their unique perspective on the British and on the country they have travelled so far to settle in.

Saturday

Enid, 9:00pm, BBC4

enidIlluminating and surprising drama telling the story of arguably the most popular children’s storyteller of all, Enid Blyton.

It reveals how Blyton became the writer who would capture more youthful imaginations than anyone else, following her career from ambitious, driven and as yet unpublished young woman to household name and moral guardian, while glimpsing her own childhood – a dark time, far from the carefree, happy idyll portrayed in her books.

Through marriages and children, the roles of Enid the wife (to Hugh and then Kenneth) and mother are portrayed, ones she struggled to fulfil while balancing them with her extraordinary output.

The film also uncovers a strong and resourceful woman; a woman who never really grew up; a woman who rewrote the endings of many chapters of her real life, sometimes with cruel and hurtful results; and a woman whose legacy has often been criticised but whose success cannot be argued with, who gave children the stories they wanted.

In the Shadow of the Moon, 9:20pm, More4

in-the-shadow-of-the-moonThe definitive story of going to the moon, told by those who went. Between 1969 and 1972 an elite group of men achieved an incredible dream. They were, and remain, the only human beings to set foot on a planet other than our own.

These personal testimonies are interwoven with digitally remastered footage from Nasa film archives, much of it previously unseen and all of it hauntingly evocative of a bygone era.

The result is an intimate and epic film which vividly communicates the daring and the danger, the pride and the passion, of this band of special young men.

Smithy can’t wait to spend his first Christmas with baby Neil, but doesn’t count on Dave Coaches tagging along and playing happy families with Nessa. Jason and Bryn, meanwhile, have a heart-to-heart about “that” fishing trip and Gavin and Stacey’s revelation to Pam and Smithy doesn’t quite turn out to be the Christmas present they were expecting.

That’s it for this week’s Primetime. Have a great week!
