Primetime Picks of Next Week’s TV

I always feel like it’s officially autumn when two things occur; Big Brother ends and Casualty starts, and working on that premise, this week’s TV sees the start of the autumn season on telly.
And of course, this week is the anniversary of 9/11 so there are a plethora of programmes about that terrible event, but some of them feature never seen before footage and accounts of that day.
So, with no more ado, not that there was much ado, let’s take a look at our recommendations for this week’s TV highlights…
Monday
Blue Murder, 9:00pm, ITV1
This is the first of the new series which sees the return of DCI Janine Lewis and her never ending battles to balance family life with her career.
Janine, played by Caroline Quentin, and her team are brought in to investigate in this episode when a cheerleading coach is found dead in her garage.
Away from work, Janine’s youngest son Tom isn’t reacting well to the recent departure of his dad, but can Richard’s man-to-man talk with the troubled boy help?
9/11: 102 Minutes that Changed America, 9:00pm, Channel 4
A hundred and two minutes passed between the first plane’s impact into North Tower of the World Trade Center on 11 September 2001, the second plane’s attack on South Tower, and the collapse of both buildings.
In that time, people around New York reached for their cameras. This documentary joins together hundreds of pieces of footage and audiotape into a single, seamless historical record, much of it never seen before.
It is an intensely personal and new perspective of the tragedy, telling that morning’s events in real time, as they were experienced by people around New York.
Tuesday
Jail Date, 8:30pm, More4
Looking for love on the internet is nothing new, but this First Cut film explores a growing online-dating phenomenon. Thousands of men looking for romance are turning to specialist ‘jail date’ sites to hook up with women in American prisons.
New film-maker Lizzie Wingham’s documentary asks why these men are choosing to date women behind bars over the girl next door. Wingham meets Essex boy Richard, who is prepared to forego sex while he waits for Beckey, who is serving a life sentence for murder in Texas.
Meanwhile, in Wisonsin, Mike is waiting for his jail date Sheila’s imminent release. The couple plan to live together, but have yet to meet, or even speak on the phone: ‘I’ve probably written a hundred letters’, says Mike, ‘and when I was married I don’t think I had a hundred conversations with my wife in five years.’
But who’s really in control of these relationships: the men on the outside or the women behind bars? When Wingham tracks down Richard’s girlfriend Beckey in jail in Dallas, she’s clear on the answer: ‘Probably me, I ain’t gonna lie.’
Cowboy Customers, 10:35pm, ITV1
This documentary is a hard-hitting look at the devastating effect on small businesses of customers who take goods and services but don’t pay for them.
The programme is presented by builder Nigel Gray who hit the headlines when he demolished a brand new conservatory he’d built because the customer refused to pay the bill, which bankrupted Nigel.
For this show, Nigel goes on a quest to confront customers who owe some of the £38bn unpaid bills to Britain’s small businesses, and he reveals the human cost of these cowboy customers.
Nigel also travels to Westminster to campaign for laws that’ll make it easier for businesses to recoup money that’s owed to them and that could mean the difference between staying in business and going bust.

Sunday
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, 7:15pm, Five
This is one of the funniest films of all time, and I must’ve seen it fifty times or more but Jim Carey’s antics in it still make me laugh. He plays Ace, who’s the best there is.
In fact, he’s the only one there is, but for this film, Ace is on the case to find the Miami Dolphins’ missing mascot and quarterback Dan Marino. He goes eyeball to eyeball with a man-eating shark, stakes out the Miami Dolphins and woos and wows the ladies.
Here’s the film’s trailer…
Stephen King’s It, 9:00pm, Zone Horror
If you’d rather be scared witless than have a laugh, you could do worse than to watch this creepy film from the pen of Stephen King.
In the quiet town of Derry, Maine, seven friends, Bill, Eddie, Mike, Bev, Stan, Richie and Ben – the losers club – have all been seeing and hearing strange things, most of which involve a clown called Pennywise…
The kids eventually discover that Bill’s little brother fell victim to this evil clown so the group set out to stop the terror and put it to rest once and for all. However, thirty years after defeating IT, Mike Hanlon, the only member who remained in Derry, suspects that IT has returned and he’s forced to call back all of the Losers club who will come face to face with the evil that’s haunted them all their lives.
Eek! It still spooks me out, even though I know exactly what’s coming! Here’s the trailer…
That’s it for this week’s Primetime Picks but be sure to join us next Sunday for more of the best of the best Sir that’s coming your way on your tellybox. Have a great week!
