Quentin Tarantino Takes Over Sky Movies!
Moviemaking genius Quentin Tarantino has hijacked an entire weekend on Sky Movies Indie from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd September. The king of cult hits will introduce some of his favourite indie titles and discuss how they have helped to inspire and shape his own career.
His fascinating choices include the Coen brothers’ debut feature, Blood Simple (Frances McDormand), the gritty 60s music drama Performance (Mick Jagger, James Fox), David Lynch’s dark masterpiece Blue Velvet (Isabella Rossellini, Dennis Hopper) and Martin Scorsese’s first commercial release Boxcar Bertha (Barbara Hershey, David Carradine).
Tarantino on Performance:
’This is one of the greatest rock movies of all time showing the bad side of the psychedelic 60s dream. James Fox produces my favourite British gangster performance…’
Further titles featured are John Waters’ Pecker (Edward Furlong, Christina Ricci), inspirational micro-budget movie Bang (one of Lucy Liu’s earliest roles), acclaimed documentary feature Z Channel: A Magnificent Obsession (featuring Tarantino himself) and the movie Quentin believes brought out Gwyneth Paltrow’s most memorable performance, Hard Eight.
Tarantino on Paul Thomas Anderson (writer/director of Hard Eight):
‘Along with myself PTA is one of the best film-makers of our generation. We have a fun rivalry - like Clift and Brando. He’s around to help me keep my game up…’
The Tarantino Takes Over weekend celebrates his new release Death Proof and from Monday 22nd September Sky Movies channels will air exclusive footage and interviews filmed on location at The Death Proof Sky Movies Pro Celebrity Banger Race - a world first event taking place on Monday 17th September (further details below).
