Richard Arnold headed to Daybreak as part of revamp!

Fans of GMTV may recall Richard Arnold who presented a daily segment about TV, including news and spoilers.

Today it’s been revealed that ITV have rehired Richard to take a place on the sofa alongside Lorraine Kelly, as the show’s executives are keen to recreate the appeal that GMTV had.

And of course, Kate Garraway, who also joined the show when it was GMTV, is currently anchoring Daybreak, and it’s expected she too will be given a permanent role by boss David Kermode when the revamped show launches.

An insider told the Daily Mirror, “The plan really seems to include lots of elements of GMTV, including Richard ‘s return.

“He is at advanced talks to come back and try to brighten up the show.

“GMTV used to get better ratings than Daybreak has ever managed, so if they could get back up to their figures it would give them a chance to really take on BBC Breakfast…”

Kermode has been planning the show’s new – or old, depending on your opinion – format since Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley was axed as the show’s presenters last year following plummeting viewing figures.

And as mentioned, Lorraine Kelly will be the new show’s main anchor, and will present alongside either Matt Barbet or Gethin Jones.

The insider added, “The plan is still to centre the show around Lorraine and it is going to be a cross between the old GMTV and the Today show in America.

“But it is quite a shift from the original plan for Daybreak and it is clear bosses want Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley’s reign to become a distant memory as soon as possible.”

Well, who doesn’t…
