Rob Brydon says Gavin & Stacey won’t work now Ruth Jones and James Corden are thin!
Gavin and Stacey star Rob Brydon – who oplayed Uncle Bryn in the hit sitcom – reckons that the chances of any new episodes of the show have been scuppered since its two leading actors have lost so much weight.
Ruth has gone from being a hefty 17 stones to just over 9, while James has dropped from 21 stones to 16.
Speaking to the Sun about Ruth and James’ transformations, Rob said, “It’ll be tricky now, as a lot of what worked about Nessa was her weight…
“I personally think it would be best just to leave it. But people want it — and if they did do it, I wouldn’t be the one who stood out and didn’t.”
It was of course Ruth and James’ weight that actually brought them together in the first place as they decided to co-write Gavin and Stacey after they both starred on ITV’s Fat Friends.
They are also currently busy with their own separate projects – Ruth’s working on a second series of Sky1 comedy Stella, while James’ play, One Man, Two Guvnors, is moving to Broadway.
However, Ruth and James have both promised fans that they wouldn’t dismiss the idea of writing at least another Christmas special of Gavin and Stacey, and I personally would have thought the weight issue could be readily incorporated into new storylines…
For instance, Nessa and Smithy could’ve gone on a healthy eating plan after a health scare left them worried about leaving the baby, Neil, an orphan.
What storyline would you come up with to explain Nessa and Smithy being streamlined instead of steam liners?
