Robbie Williams and his new album ‘Swing Both Ways’ has knocked One Direction and ‘Midnight Memories’ off the top of the Official Albums Chart.

Not only that but just 48 hours after releasing her new album without any warning, Beyonce storms straight back into the Top 5.

One Direction and ‘Midnight Memories’ (2) just couldn’t hold on to that top spot any longer on this weeks Official Albums Chart as they lost out to Robbie Williams by just 5,000 copies.

Official Charts Company sales data reveals that ‘Swing Both Ways’ by Robbie Williams looks set to be a popular Christmas gift for 2013.

Four weeks ago Robbie Williams scored the UK’s 1000th Official Number 1 Album and the album has sold over 400,000 copies since then.

This puts the album back into the race to be one of the UK’s biggest sellers of the year.

Gary Barlow remains at Number (3) with his new album ‘Since I Saw You Last’ while Olly Murs remains at Number (4) with the ‘Right Place, Right Time’ which shot back up the charts following the release of the special edition.

The biggest success story this week however on the Official Albums Chart goes to Beyoncé who shockingly released her new album just on Friday (13th December).

The Official Charts Company can reveal that after just 48 hours on sale Beyoncé has shot straight into Number (5) on the Official Albums Chart after the album sold almost 68,000 copies.

Martin Talbot, the Official Charts Company’s Chief Executive comments:

“It is a great achievement by Beyoncé to make such an impact so quickly, after just two days sales – and especially with only the digital edition available.”

He continued: “Few (if any) albums have sold as many digital copies in such a short space of time.”

The album which is simple titled ‘Beyoncé’ features 14 tracks and at present is only available digitally. ‘Beyoncé’ features collaborations with husband Jay Z, her daughter Blue Ivy, Drake and Frank Ocean.

‘Beyoncé’ also features 18 videos – one for each track on the album and a special digital booklet. A physical version of the album is expected before Christmas.

Following the surprise release of the album the internet went into meltdown as people scrambled to download it and fellow musicians also tweeted their reactions.

Beyoncé also surprised fans again by performing a new track called ‘XO’ on her Mrs. Carter World Tour at Chicago’s United Centre on Friday night (13th December)

You can see the video of that performance below.
