Robert Lindsay and Richard Griffiths to star in gay sitcom ‘George and Bernard Shaw’
Robert Lindsay and Richard Griffiths have been announced as the lead actors in a new gay sitcom for BBC One.
The duo will play a middle aged couple in the new drama, titled ‘George and Bernard Shaw’ and if the pilot performs well, the channel are hoping to make it a long running, regular feature in the TV schedule.
A source told The Mirror:
“Yes, it’s slightly less than conventional in terms of the family set-up but it’s the 21st century and things move on.
“The BBC have commissioned a pilot and will make the call once it’s all wrapped up. But all signs point towards this being a perfect prime-time vehicle. The two big names involved mean this could be very special.”
The new show will replace recently cancelled ‘My Family’ and will occupy the same time slot that show held for 11 years before it was axed earlier this year.
Although the programme has enjoyed popularity since it launched in 2000, TV bosses decided to give it the chop to make room for fresh new comedies.
BBC One boss Danny Cohen confirmed the 11th series would be the last, saying: “Now that all of the kids have fled the nest we feel it’s time to make room for new comedies.”
