RUMOR: Spiderman to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe but no Andrew Garfield?

by Sarah Jones

Well, well, well is Peter Parker himself about to join the long line of superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? If these latest rumors are to be believed, it’s looks like we may see him sooner rather than later.

Even though Spiderman is very much a Marvel creation, films such as The Amazing Spiderman 1 and 2 on Sony have been separate to other Marvel characters such as; Captain America, Thor, Iron Man etc. Recently, Latino Review have reported that a 60/40 split of the Spidey rights between Sony and Marvel is being negotiated.

However, if this rumored deal DOES go ahead the report suggests that the current Spiderman stars contracts will not be honored and Marvel simply want to ‘wipe the slate clean’.

In the more recent Spiderman films, the romance between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy was a heavy focus throughout both films. Marvel reportedly feel that the romantic element has already been played out enough and would use it as more of a side story in any potential upcoming creations.

Also, the origin story of Spiderman would not be revisited and they would apparently pick up with Peter/Spiderman already living a dual life.

In the Latino Review report and an intriguing post on Reddit both suggest that the new Peter Parker could make his debut in the MCU in Captain America: Civil War, in a small cameo. However, nothing has been confirmed on this front.

Rumors have also suggested the likes of Bates Motel star Freddie Highmore and Teen Wolf’s Dylan O’Brien would be on the shortlist for the lead role, if the Marvel deal goes ahead.

Either way, if Marvel does go forward with their plans for Spiderman, we’re set to see a completely different style of film it would seem. We’d love to know your thoughts on these rumors though, do you think the slate should be wiped clean with Spiderman? or would you rather see the likes of Andrew Garfield return? Great news hope deal gets done sooner rather than later and who really cares what marvel decide on to me they will get it right no matter if they start fresh or keep Andrew Garfield, but still don’t think deal be done for cap 3 what’s a massive shame

I think Dylan O’Brien would be an amazing Spider-Man. I am very protective of Spider-Man, he is one of my favorite superheroes yet I think Dylan could play him right. I hope it’d be him…

I liked Tobey Maguire in old spider-man movies better than Andrew Garfield new Peter parker in the amazing spiderman 1 and 2. I still missed old spiderman movies with Tobey Maguire but spiderman 4 was cancelled in may 2010 with new villain the vulture and the lizard. I’m not going to see Dylan o’ brien not going to played new Peter Parker and I don’t like him. I still liked old spiderman movies and Tobey Maguire as old Peter Parker.

Give the part to Dylan O’Brien. He’s phenomenal. I have not seen Spider-man since Toby, but if Dylan O’Brien is Peter Parker, I’ll get tickets the minute they go on sale. I honestly can’t say that about any other actor.
