Could there be an ‘Ugly Betty’ reunion in the works?
If Salma Hayek had her way, we could be seeing the fashion based comedy returning to our screens!
In a brand new interview with E! Online, Salma, who both starred in and executive produced the hit ABC show, admitted that she “would love” for the show to come back to the small screen in the future, telling the site that the show has “such a special place in [her] heart.”
However, before fans get too excited about a possible reprise, the Mexican beauty also admitted to E! that she unfortunately can’t see a big reunion happening in the near future.
The series, which was originally based on Fernando Gaitan’s Colombian telenovela, ‘Yo soy Betty, la fea’, ran for four seasons between 2006 and 2010 but was cancelled after a steep decline in viewers.
Back in 2010, Ana Ortiz (Hilda) admitted that a movie could be in the show’s future. The actress, who is now starring in the Eva Longoria produced show ‘Devious Maids’, revealed that a film is something that the original cast has discussed and “something that America Ferrera [Betty] would really love to do.”
Eric Mabius (Daniel) also told The Sun newspaper in 2010 that he’s still holding out hope for “a romantic conclusion for Daniel and Betty”, adding that a film could very well come about “if enough people ask for it.” More recently, a Kickstarter campaign was set up in the hopes of gaining the attention of Hayek’s fellow executive producer, Silvio Horta.
However, getting the busy cast in the same place at the same time would probably be the biggest obstacle.
America Ferrera (Betty) has recently tried her hand as a producer with the drama film ‘X/Y’,
Eric Mabius (Daniel) is currently starring in The Hallmark Channel’s ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered’, and Rebecca Romijn (Alexis) is currently hosting the game show ‘Skin Wars’.
So if you want to see a movie, make some noise ‘Ugly Betty’ fans!
