Sam Bailey has done it! Not only has she went to the top of the charts with her debut single but she’s scored the 2013 Christmas Number (1).
Just a week after winning this years X Factor the former prison officer has topped the chart with her debut single ‘Skyscraper’
We doubt this result on the Official Singles Chart will come as a surprise to anyone as all week with help from the Official Charts Company we’ve reported Sam as being in the lead.
Now it’s official. Sam Bailey has towered over Pharrell Williams who is at Number (2) with ‘Happy’ by selling 149,000 copies.
Sam has outsold Pharrell by more than two copies to one and has also became one of the fastest selling singles of the year!
Proceeds from ‘Skyscraper’ (originally by Demi Lovato) will be going to two charities – Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity and Together For Short Lives – VAT free!
Speaking with OfficialCharts.com Sam said: “Being Number 1 is absolutely amazing!”
“It really is the icing on the cake and it means Great Ormond Street Children’s Charity and Together For Short Lives will benefit from the single which makes it extra special.”
Chief Executive of the Official Charts Company Martin Talbot had also commented and said:

Elsewhere in the Top 5 on this weeks Official Singles Chart we can see that Pharrell Williams is at Number (2) with ‘Happy’.
Leona Lewis remains at Number (3) with her Christmas song ‘One More Sleep’
AC/DC are at Number (4) with their first ever UK Top 10 single ‘Highway to Hell’. The track returned to the chart after a social media campaign to keep the X Factor from the top.
Avicii completes the Top 5 on this weeks Official Singles Chart with ‘Hey Brother’
Taking a look at high climbers and new entries on this weeks Official Singles Chart we can see that ITV’s The Big Reunion (pictured above) are new at Number (20).
The supergroup which includes 5ive, Atomic Kitten, Blue, The Honeyz, B*Witched, 911 and Liberty X released Wizzard’s ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday’ to raise money for ITV’s Text Santa appeal.
Altern 8 return to the Official Singles Chart Top 40 this week for the first time in more than 22 years with their 90s rave track ‘Activ 8 (Come With Me)’ which is at Number (33).
Climbing 27 places to Number (20) this week is Ed Sheeran with ‘I See Fire’ which is taken from the soundtrack for ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug’ movie.
The Killers and ‘Mr Brightside’ enter the Top 40 once again on the Official Singles Chart at Number (29) while Kelly Clarkson climbs 16 places into Number (30) with ‘Underneath The Tree’.
Following Sam Bailey’s release of ‘Skyscraper’ the original – by Demi Lovato is at Number (37) on the Official Singles Chart today.
Finally on this special Official Singles Chart Little Mix climb 12 places to Number (39) with their new single ‘Little Me’.
