Since Sam Smith first popped onto the scene he’s had an incredible amount of success in a short period of time and that show’s no signs of slowing down!
His debut album ‘In The Lonely Hour’ has performed higher than he could have expected and even in the US Sam is finding his feet, which is rare.
The ‘Money On My Mind’ star is making cracking the States look like a walk in the park and in a new interview he has spoken about who gave him the best career advice and helped him get to this stage.
During an interview with On Air with Ryan Seacrest for KIIS-FM the hitmaker spoke about how people have been filling him with their wisdom, including Lady Gaga.
Smith explained: “I would say the best advice I’ve been given so far was from Lady Gaga, who said to me, ‘Just be yourself’.”
You may remember back in September during an interview with Boston’s 103.3 AMP Radio Sam explained that he had sent Lady Gaga an email confessing how much she influenced him.
“I wrote her an email basically just saying, ‘I remember being a 17-year-old, queuing up for your concert, dreaming up doing this, and being in the music industry’.”
“And the thing I admire the most about Lady Gaga was the hustle and what she did to get into the industry. And I just ran with it saying, ‘Thank you for inspiring me to do this because the reason why I’m here now is partly because of you’.”
Earlier this week Sam performed at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles and spoke to the crowd about how a track from his album (‘I’ve Told You Now’) was based on him loving someone who didn’t feel the same.
“I put out a pretty depressing album earlier this year. So I sort of wallowed for a year, but I feel much better now.” he explained.
