The Official Charts Company have reported as part of their midweek album update that British singer-songwriter Sam Smith looks set to score another number one.
This time it’s with his debut album ‘In The Lonely Hour’ which was only released this past Monday (26th) and is soaring straight to the top.
On Sunday the ‘Money On My Mind’ scored yet another number one with his single ‘Stay With Me’ and this Sunday it looks like he’s switching his number one to the albums chart.
At present, according to Official Charts Company sales data Sam Smith is outselling Coldplay (2) by 20,000 copies at this midweek stage.
‘Ghost Stories’ for Coldplay is their sixth chart-topping album and on Sunday became the fastest selling artist album of 2014 so far selling 168,000 copies during its first week.
Falling one place is Michael Jackson with his second posthumous album ‘Xscape’ which is at Number (3) while ‘A Perfect Contradiction’ from Paloma Faith is at Number (4).
Finally rounding off the Top 5 at this midweek stage is Scottish singer-songwriter Paolo Nutini with his former chart-topper ‘Caustic Love’ which is at Number (5).
Heading into Sunday the Official Charts Company are reporting that in addition to Sam Smith’s debut album (1) there are seven other new albums to note.
Looking to claim the second highest entry on the Official Albums Chart this week is Mariah Carey with her new album ‘Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse’ which enters at Number (6).
Canadian singer-songwriter Neil Young’s 35th album ‘A Letter Home’ which was released originally for Record Store Day last month is at Number (10) after going on sale earlier this week.
At Number (12) are Norwegian duo Royksopp and Swedish star Robyn who are joining forces on ‘Do It Again’. Peter Andre is back on the charts with ‘Big Night’ at Number (20).
New entries are completed by Sharon Van Etten’s ‘Are We There’ at Number (21), Echo And The Bunnymen’s ‘Meteorites’ at Number (23), and Bury Tomorrow’s ‘Runes’ at Number (24).
