News from down under today is that Sandy Winton is to leave Neighbours, however, former Prisoner Cell Block H actress Glenda Linscott is joining the cast of the show.
Sandy, who’s played the role of Erinsborough High principal Michael Williams for nearly two years, revealed that we’ll see him for the last time in Ramsay Street next year.
The show’s executive producer, Susan Bower, made the announcement about Sandy’s forthcoming exit via the show’s official website.
She wrote, “The Michael Williams character (played by Sandy Winton) will be leaving Ramsay Street as part of a significant story coming up in April.
“Sandy’s contribution to the show has been superb, enabling the character to be part of some milestone storylines.”
However, it seems Michael’s daughter Tash – who’s played by Valentina Novakovic – will remain on the show.
Bower added, “Tash will remain in Erinsborough, so the Williams name will live on.”
Moving on now to Glenda Linscott joining the cast, and it’s been reported that she’ll play the role of Jessica Girdwood who is a “no nonsense” surgeon.
It’s expected that she will initially star for three months, though if the character is well received by viewers, she may stay longer.
Glenda, who’s arguably best known for her role as Rita ‘The Beater’ Connors in ‘80s prison drama Prisoner Cell Block H, told Channel 5’s Neighbours website that it had been a pleasure to return to Nunawading studio – where Neighbours is filmed – after last seeing it during filming for Prisoner.
She said, “I just love being back and it’s hilarious to still see bits and pieces of those days and I even visited the spot where I said my last lines on Prisoner.
“I also saw the stairs where I threw many an inmate down – luckily my Neighbours character is more gentle.
“The impact Prisoner has had on my life is truly amazing.”
Glenda’s arrival in Ramsay Street will air in March next year in Australia, and here in the UK soon afterwards.
