Sarah Lancashire & Ian Hart for BBC’s Five Daughters

Sarah Lancashire and Ian Hart lead the cast in Five Daughters, a three-part drama serial for BBC One by acclaimed writer Stephen Butchard.

A sensitive portrait of events surrounding the discovery of five young women tragically murdered in Ipswich in 2006, Five Daughters is made with the full co-operation of Suffolk Police and other agencies involved in the case, as well as following the inside story of the police investigation.

Cast list also includes: Jaime Winstone (Bullet Boy, Phoo Action), Eva Birthistle (Last Enemy, State Within), Natalie Press (Bleak House), Juliet Aubrey (Primeval, Criminal Justice), Aisling Loftus (Dive), Kate Dickie (He Kills Coppers), Al Weaver (Five Days, Me And Orson Welles), David Bradley (Harry Potter), Lisa Millet (No Angels), Ruth Negga (Criminal Justice), Kirsten Wareing (It’s A Free World), Anton Lesser (Little Dorrit, Casualty); Sean Harris (Red Riding) and Joseph Mawle (The Street, Freefall, Soundproof).

Writer Stephen Butchard says: “These five young women, precious to their families, had heart, ambition and potential; until an event or events, one wrong turn, one chance meeting led them into the world of heroin and crack.

“Their dependency on these drugs facilitated their easy exploitation and led them to the street. Our hope is that this drama provides a glimpse of the real girls their families knew.”
