As fans of Coronation Street will most likely know, Royle Family actress Sue Johnston has joined the cast of the show in the role of Stella Price’s feisty mum Gloria…

And today, ITV have released a first look picture of Sue on the set of Corrie in her new role.

She began filming last Thursday, and as we’ll find out in about six weeks – when Sue’s debut airs – Stella (Michelle Collins) is far from happy with the unexpected arrival of her mum.

Gloria’s back story is that she’s been running a bar in Spain, but the reason why she’s left the bar seems to be something of a mystery, but of course, with Stella having financial difficulties thanks to Karl’s gambling, Gloria’s arrival couldn’t have come at a worse time…

And of course, what Stella doesn’t yet know is that Karl (John Michie) is having an affair with Sunita (Shobna Gulati), but will her mum be the one to uncover that little secret?

Well, as mentioned, we’ll have to wait until June to find out, but of Sue joining the cast, the show’s executive producer Phil Collinson recently remarked, “I’m delighted to be welcoming Sue Johnston to the cast of Coronation Street. She is a national treasure and a stunning actress.

“She has been at the heart of the very best comedy and drama the UK has produced over last 30 years and will step into the heart of Coronation Street as her character, Gloria, takes up running The Rovers with daughter Stella.”

Not sure about that wig though… It makes her look like a Womble!
