Sex Change Hospital visits Trinidad, Colorado, the sex change capital of the world. Each episode is a self-contained journey following two people as they take the final step in their transition from one gender to another. Meet Marci Bowers: MD, parent, partner, and transgendered surgeon. Marci transitioned from male to female 10 years ago. Mentored by sex change pioneer Dr Stanley Biber, whose practice she took over shortly before his death, Marci calls upon her own experiences as a transwoman as she guides her patients through their transition.

In this first episode, Vicki Estrada - born Steve - a 54-year-old male-to-female transsexual from San Diego, comes in for genital reassignment surgery and breast augmentation. Vicki has come to Trinidad with her father and stepmother. Vicki’s biggest challenge will come when she returns home and tries to re-establish her life with Cristina, who fell in love with Steve. Jim Howley, born Jennifer, is a 31-year-old female-to-male transsexual from Ohio who is coming in for a hysterectomy. Jim’s mother is coming with him in an attempt to better understand his struggle. Jim hopes that this trip can help mend what has been a rocky relationship over the last several years.
