Gillian Taylforth – aka Kathy Beale in Eastenders – sued The Sun / News International for libel. They alleged that she had “performed a sex act” in a Range Rover on her boyfriend Geoff Knights. Great names littered the opening credits: George Carman, the nation’s most feared libel lawyer, for The Sun ; eminent QC Michael Beloff, for Taylforth/ Knights; and Judge Drake, a renowned judge with many high profile libel trials to his name. This is a head-on collision between the celebrity and the legal world that saw more storylines, more drama, as many tears and as much laughter as any soap.
