Sex Pistols sell out John Lydon will appear on Question Time tonight. Oo how anarchic…
The Daily Mirror reports today that former Sex Pistols singer John Lydon – aka Johnny Rotten – will appear on Question Time tonight, and according to the paper, “Producers will hope there is no repeat of his old band’s foul-mouthed 1976 appearance on Bill Grundy’s show.”
You can see a clip of that whole ‘Oo We Swore On TV: How Anti-Establishment Are We?’ moment after the jump, but back to Lydon’s QT appearance tonight, he’ll be on the panel alongside former Home Secretary Alan Johnson, Energy Secretary Ed Davey, Tory MP Louise Mensch and journalist Dominic Lawson.
The show, which is hosted by David Dimbleby, has apparently been pre-recorded in Derby so as to bleep out any swearing or other inappropriate behaviour.
A BBC insider said, “We’re just hoping Johnny isn’t too rotten and wants to have a proper discussion…”
However, personally, I wouldn’t go to Our Gate to watch Lydon in anything, because for me, he’s without question THE biggest sell out in the history of music.
And in all honesty, he never could sing, but it was the whole anti-establishmentarianism that was the one thing that SP stood for that meant something to me when I was in my teens.
Sadly, I bought into his bolloc** and to some extent, his anarchic views, but in latter years, not only has he starred in an advert for butter, he’s also appeared in I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, and didn’t he also appear on Celebrity Big Brother?
The point of it for me is that even when he made his I’m A Celeb appearance, he was still portraying this anti-establishment BS, claiming he just didn’t care blah, blah, blah…
I really would have more respect for the man if he put his hand up and said, “Yes, I know I was once all about the anarchy, and at the time, I believed in it, but I’ve grown up and have bills to pay.”
But the fact is, out of all that’s been before in his career, the one thing he’s any good at all is swearing. Big woop and epic fail.
Anywho, rant over, and here’s the clip of the Pistols on Bill Grundy’s chat show, but do let me know what you think about Lydon’s appearance tonight.
