Veteran actress Diana Rigg announced as new cast member on Game of Thrones!
This week has seen the annual Comic-Con event in San Diego attracting enormous crowds of celebrities and press as news about the USA’s top shows does the rounds…
And today, the PA reveal that British actress Diana Rigg, who’s 73 and who formerly starred in cult drama The Avengers, has been cast in HBO’s hit drama Game of Thrones in the role of Olenna Tyrell, who’s also known as the Queen of Thorns.
Other additions to the cast include Mackenzie Crook as wildling raider Orell, Clive Russell as Bryndon ‘Blackfish’ Tully, Nathalie Emannuel as slave translator Missandei, Paul Kaye as Thoros of Myr, Kerry Ingram as Shireen Baratheon and Tara Fitzgerald as her mother, Selyse…
However, disappointingly for some of the assembled media and fans the new cast members weren’t at Comic-Con when the announcements were made, however, , a video of interviews with them all was shown and fans were able to talk about the show with actors Richard Madden, Michelle Fairley, Alfie Allen, Emilia Clarke, Rose Leslie, producer Carolyn Straus and George RR Martin, who is of course the author of the book series that Game Of Thrones is based on.
Allen told the fans and media, “It’s not a simple world of heroes and villains. The characters have flaws.”
The PA adds, “Other than revealing the new cast members, no information about the next season was given, except that it was filming in Ireland, Croatia, Iceland and Morocco.”
