Benedict Cumberbatch has become a global household name following his huge success in the award-winning BBC detective series Sherlock, but it would seem his talents are far more varied than just solving crimes.
Since Sherlock first hit our screens back in 2010, its two main starts, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have achieved world-wide fame, scoring major film and TV roles as a result.
Freeman, who plays Sherlock’s partner in crime-fighting, Watson, has gone on to land the leading, title role in Peter Jackson’s phenomenal Hobbit series.
Meanwhile Cumberbatch has gone on to star as the lead baddie John ‘Khan’ Harrison in last year’s Blockbuster Star Trek sequel, Star Trek: Into Darkness, as well as staring in the lead role of the WikiLeaks film, The Fifth Estate.
But it is his latest film project, August: Osage County, which is currently causing him to be the talk of Tinsel Town at the moment, as his co-stars, the legendary Meryl Streep, has described him as a “gift”!
The A-List actress, who has been nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress in the film depicting the moving story of family brought back together in times of crisis, has been describing her experience with working with Cumberbatch in a recent ITN News interview, in which she said:
“Benedict I hadn’t ever met before and he was such a gift to the film.
“He plays someone completely different than all the other performances we’ve seen. He’s very tender and wounded and bruised and tentative, and he fit into this Oklahoma family just effortlessly.”
The actress, whose August: Osage County co-star Julia Roberts has also bagged herself an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress in the film which is also nominated in the Best Film category, went on to reveal that she hadn’t even been aware that our Benedict was English, explaining:
“I was surprised to learn that he was British, I didn’t know that.”
