Having been told nothing more specific than the new series of Sherlock will be broadcast late this year or early next year, TV listings site, IMDB (The Internet Movies Data Base) has now added the first episode, The Empty Hearse, into a time slot – on October 31st!!!
Filming of the new series began earlier this year with episodes one and two, The Empty Hearse and The Sign of Three, before taking a break to allow for the busy schedules of its two main stars, Benedict Cumberbatch who plays Sherlock and Martin Freeman who plays Watson.
Now that filming for the finale, His Last Vow, is well under way we are all sat with baited breath waiting for a premier date for the much-anticipated series, so when we read this news we could have easily got over excited!
A fan of the show, which ended its last series with the supposed suicide of Sherlock which was later revealed as being a fake, took to social networking site, Twitter, to raise the news, as well as taking the opportunity to ask IMDB directly if it was true, or just a ‘holding’ position for the show, saying:
“@suevertue @IMDb is listing #Sherlock Series 3 as airing 31 Oct. Truly or are they placeholding? #tenterhooks”
And unfortunately for us, Vertue responded that the listing was indeed a place holding, tweeting back:
“@Glorious_Dawn @IMDb . Place holding!”
Still, we can’t help but be a little hopeful that the series is so far ahead in production that it needs a place holding in this year’s guide that this means that we will indeed be seeing the show this side of Christmas at least.
Meanwhile Sherlock show runner, Steven Moffat, has been discussing Sherlock’s fake death, and the explanation as to how he did it, with TV Guide, saying:
“It’s a rational explanation. When you see the answer, you’ll see that yes, we did know in advance. We had to plot it out.”
He also went on to say how it will take a bit of time for Watson to accept his friend’s betrayal and forgive him, explaining:
“It goes on and on. … It’s a long, complicated emotional journey and extremely funny,”
