After two years waiting for the first episode of the third series of Sherlock, The Empty Hearse, we only have to wait 2 more days till the second instalment, The Sign of Three!

Seems like a late Christmas present, doesn’t it? That is until you realise that this means that the entire series is only going to last a fortnight, before the long wait for series 4 begins.

However, before we start mourning the series before it is even over, we have found some snippets of information with regards to the next episode, The Sign of Three, to whet your appetites with.

The first bit of information reported by Digital Spy, is that the body of the episode is to be told in a long monologue in the form of Sherlock’s Best Man speech, presented at Watson’s wedding which picks up six months after Wednesday night’s premier, The Empty Hearse.

During the episode the speech is intertwined with flashback sequences to help viewers fill in the half a year gap between episodes, during which we will learn a little more about Mrs Hudson’s husband, who was executed for murder.

Included in the flashback sequences is a hilarious scene showing Watson’s (Martin Freeman) stag night, with one of the characters stating:

“Yeah, but am I a pretty lady?”

Also in the episode fans will get a glimpse of Sherlock’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) more human side, the one show writers and stars have been promising for months, as he delivers a heartfelt and emotional tribute to his best friend and crime-fighting partner, John Watson, as he marries Mary Morstan (played by Freeman’s real life partner, Amanda Abbington).

Another surprise in store is the return of a face from the past, in what is said to be a thrilling twist, and at the end of the episode we will be let into a secret – What Sherlock’s Last Vow is, linking us neatly to the following week’s series finale, His Last Vow.

Sherlock returns to our BBC screens this Sunday (January 5th) at 9pm, followed by the series finale, His Last Vow, to be shown the following Sunday (January 12th) at the same time.
