Mrs Biggs and Two Pints of Larger And A Packet Of Crisps star Sheridan Smith is set to begin a new relationship with Sherlock star, Andrew Scott, in a new Channel 4 drama series focussing on the quest for love.
Smith, who played the title role in last year’s ITV hugely popular hit drama, Mrs Biggs, based on the story of Charmian Biggs, the wife of notorious Great Train Robber, Ronnie Biggs, is set to star in this new drama alongside several other high-profile names, each one playing the role of hopefuls seeking love by going on a string of set-up dates.
The series, created by Bryan Elsley the genius behind Skins, is set in nine episodes, each one following a couple on their date as they meet for the first time. Depending on how well the date goes, some couples will re-appear in later episodes, whilst some, the one that end in disaster, won’t. However, Sheridan’s character will return for two dates!
Sheridan’s character goes on two dates, first with City trader Nick, played by Maskell.
In Sheridan’s second episode she plays a school teacher called Jenny who is set up with a Christian, called Christian, played by Andrew Scott, who is best known for his portrayal as Benedict Cumberbatch’s arch-nemesis, Moriarty in the popular BBC mystery series, Sherlock.
The individual stories of the different characters begin to intertwine as the series progresses, and exposes all the modern-day dating rituals and secrets from telling white lies in online profiles to who pays for dinner.
Other stars in the series include The Thin Red Line’s Ben Chaplin, Utopia’s Neil Maskell, Gemma Chan from Secret Diary Of A Call Girl and Smith’s former Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps c-star Will Mellor.
Filming is currently under way in London, with the show due to air in the summer.
