SHOPPING THE FAMILY

Last year there were nearly five million crimes recorded in Britain. The realisation that a family member could commit one of these crimes forces a complicated moral choice: to keep it a secret; or to turn them in to the police. Director Tom Pearson follows two parents who found themselves facing this very dilemma. Carol Saldinack reported two of her sons to the police for attacking two strangers in Chichester, and leaving one of the victims blind in one eye. She was subsequently disowned by her four eldest children and denied access to her grandchildren. This poignant documentary for the First Cut strand explores the anguish, heart-break and inevitable consequences of ‘Shopping the Family’.
