In 1994, ER made TV history when creator Michael Crichton launched the show that was to change the face of medical dramas. With its fast camera work, slick scripting and compelling characters, the seriesfollowed the work and lives of a group of emergency room doctors and nurses in a busy Chicago hospital. The show lasted for 15 heart-stopping seasons, gained a plethora of awards – including 23 Emmys® – and made stars of George Clooney, Noah Wyle and Julianna Margulies along the way. Taking viewers back to the first ground-breaking series, Sky Atlantic HD gives viewers the chance to re-live the drama from the beginning.

Launching the careers of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, The X-Files became one of the stand-out series of the 90s. Following the exploits of two FBI agents charged with investigating reports of paranormal activity, the series helped bring cult sci-fi into the mainstream. While the pairing of believer Mulder (Duchovny) with sceptic Scully (Anderson) created sizzling on-screen chemistry, characters like supernatural serial killer Eugene Tooms ensured the programme was genuinely chilling.
There’s also a chance to see Thirtysomething, the US drama about a group of baby-boomer yuppies in the late 1980s. Winner of 13 Emmy® awards and 2 Golden Globes®, the series stars Timothy Busfield (The West Wing), Ken Olin (Brothers & Sisters) and Patricia Wettig (Brothers & Sisters).
