When news broke that Ben Affleck would be taking on the role of Batman in upcoming films it was met with an extremely mixed reaction from fans of the superhero (Batman, not Affleck).

Fellow actors and celebrities are beginning to appear and comment on his latest role and for the most all we’ve seen is praise.

Tom Welling (above), who is best known for playing Clark Kent in hit US show ‘Smallville’ has praised the decision while speaking to E! News. about the casting of Ben Affleck: “It’s great,” he said. “He’s a tremendous actor, he’s a wonderful director and I wish him the best.”

Welling also warned fans to not rush into any judgements over the casting for the upcoming ‘Man of Steel’ sequel: “It’s hard to criticise things before they even happen,” Welling said. “I know they’ll endeavour to make the best film they can.”

Ben Affleck

Last night it was reported that Josh Brolin had been in discussions to take on the role of Batman but instead Ben Affleck was chosen and commented:

“It just didn’t turn out. It’s OK. It is OK. You know, another scenario might have worked better, but I’m happy for Ben.”

Brolin also spoke about the negative feedback Affleck was getting from the internet:

“I feel for him, truly. I would not want to be him right now. The reaction becomes so personal.”

“It’s like, ‘F**k this guy, I wish he was dead’. And you’re like, ‘What? Dude, seriously? This guy is just working like you are. He’s doing the same thing you are. He’s trying to make the best choices he can.”

The ‘Man of Steel’ sequel which is currently known as just ‘Man of Steel 2’ is due to be released in cinemas on the 17th of July 2015.

While nothing official has been released a YouTube user created this very convincing fake trailer for ‘Man of Steel 2’ using various clips from other films.
