Snow Patrol played a massive homecoming show at Tennent’s Vital last night, receiving a rapturous reception from the crowd when they brought Day 2 of the festival a close with a show-stopping set. In a major coup for organisers, Snow Patrol’s headline set at Belfast’s Boucher Road Playing Fields was a festival exclusive. Gary Lightbody said: “Thank you to Tennent’s Vital for having us, this is our only show in the world this year… We weren’t going to do any shows this year, but we said yes to this straightaway!”

Earlier in the day, guitarist Nathan Connolly said: “The Belfast audience are pretty hard to beat. It’s a huge thing for us – our families and our friends will be here. I don’t know what else to say really other than it’s home and it’s amazing.”

Gary dedicated the encore to the crowd, hailing them as one of the best they’ve ever played for, before finishing with a rousing rendition of Just Say Yes.

Thursday’s bill also featured singer-songwriter Foy Vance, who opened Day 2 with a stunning set which was watched by members of Snow Patrol. Up next were Dublin rockers Kodaline, who played material from their debut album In a Perfect World, including the chart-topping High Hopes. Californian singer-songwriter Jason Mraz also featured on the bill, treating fans to his hits including I’m Yours and I Won’t Give Up.

The biggest ever Tennent’s Vital comes to a close tonight when Swedish DJ Avicii brings a taste of the super club atmosphere to Boucher Road Playing Fields. Tinie Tempah, Rudimental, Naughty Boy and Tommy Trash will also take to the stage, before Tommy Trash plays the official Tennent’s Vital after party at The Limelight in Belfast.
