SNOWSTORM: BRITAIN’S BIG FREEZE
In the first weeks of February, travellers were stranded, and thousands of schools closed as Britain suffered its worst snowfalls in 18 years. This film documents that extraordinary week and the fallout from the storm, exploring the possible factors behind the freak weather. People battled to get to work. Some took eight hours using skis and sledges while others made the most of their wintry day off. Britain was turned into a fun, white wonderland by this sudden change in conditions – but with more than just a few broken bones as a result.

Britain’s big freeze? Should have been named England’s big freeze. Highlands of Scotland got a much deepter fall of snow 21.5″ fell on one night and then a further 8″ next day. Roads everywhere blocked, but people got on with it. Have a heavy fall of snow at least once every winter but it is never mentioned on the national news. Programme concluded by stating that ‘Britain’s last snowfall was 18 years ago!! Scotland’s last really heavy fall was THREE years ago. Get a grip England for goodness sake.
Britains big freeze? what a load of tosh.Worst snow fall in 18yrs (more tosh)If we in the highlands complained everytime we had a severe snow fall we would never be finished complaining.Roads are blocked on a regular basis and people walk, YES WALK through the snow to get to work. And if we closed our schools everytime we had a snow fall our kids would be off for most of the winter, children WALK to school & WALK home again.Come up to Cockbridge/Tomintoul ( first road blocked every year Around Nov. Dec)and live a little in real snow storms.Well said Joyce Lindsay
Just watched Britains Big Freeze, nothing against England but should of been called Englands “Big Freeze” Scotlanad never gets mentioned. when is the BBC going to realise that Britain consists of England Wales Scotland and Northern Ireland or have they no brains. No wonder Scotland wants its own tel channels. we are sick to death of the BBC when a scottish person wins its for Britain or UK when its English its England wins a medal. Wake up BBC and learn your geography.
well i thought it was pretty fun!
