While trawling the archives of Coronation Street this week, I’ve been horrified by some of the truly frightening hair styles of the characters, so I decided – in my bold journalistic endeavour to uncover the truth – to investigate soap’s most hideous hairdos, and here are the top five nominees for the Horrid Hairdo award in the category, What Were You Thinking?

Top spot number one goes to Kevin Webster for his Hall & Oates style do which he sported throughout the 80s and well into the 90s…

In at number three is Eastender’s Sharon who’s had perms that are only rivalled by the Queen Vic’s ex-pooch, Roly.

Well done to Jason and Kylie for coming out of that awful hairdo phase relatively psychologically unscathed.

And last but by no means least is this daring do that Kathy – Malandra Burrows – was brave enough to be seen in public with…

It takes guts and we applaud your bravery Malandra! However, the Afghan hound she borrowed if from wanted it back shortly after this shot so as the show went on, fortunately Kathy’s hair became far less scary.
