When I was growing up in the seventies and reaching teenaged years in the eighties, for me, it was all about the Quo as I had mammoth crushes on Rick Parfitt and Francis Rossi…
I collected all the albums, had every poster going, and even did the Angel Rock at school discos. Yes, I was just that dedicated.
So it was therefore with mixed emotions that I read this morning that Status Quo have launched a career in film making with a “90 minute action caper” entitled Bula Quo!
The movie, which is directed and written by Stuart St Paul, who has worked on movies such as Aliens and Batman, as well as on pop videos such as Duran Duran’s Wild Boy, .has been filmed in Figi – nice work if you can get it – and boasts former EastEnders star Craig Fairbrass as well as actress Laura Aikman among it’s cast…
Speaking to The Telegraph about the film, in which he of course stars alongside Rick Francis said, “The one thing Quo fans know is to expect the unexpected.
“Of course, Rick and I have already acted in Coronation Street, one of the biggest TV shows on the planet, so this should be no trouble at all – according to management.”
And Rick added, “Once I found out that we weren’t going to be shooting anywhere cold, I was all for it.
“This is an amazing chance for us to do something new and we’re all really excited.”
The film will of course have some of Quo’s biggest hits as its soundtrack, and will apparently feature Rick and Frank in all manner of jeopardy, including being thrown through a window and being shot at.
But I’m really not sure how to feel about this…
I guess ultimately, I’ll have to watch it to see if ruins my memories of the band, or if it reignites the crushes I had.
Will you watch it?
