Strictly Come Dancing 2011 Results: Edwina Currie and Vincent Simone voted off!

Edwina Currie was the first celebrity to be voted off ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ last night.

The former MP had hoped she would have the Anne Widdecombe appeal, what with her political past and lack of dance skills but it wasn’t to be and after a very disappointing foxtrot with her professional partner Vincent Simone, the 64 year old was unanimously voted off the BBC series.

After the results of the public vote revealed that Audley Harrison and Natalie Lowe joined Edwina and Vincent in the bottom two, the judging panel chose to send John Major’s ex home.

However Currie claimed that she wasn’t sad to come to the end of her dancing journey, as all the rehearsing had left her so exhausted, that she’d banned sex with husband John for the duration of her run.

She told The Sun:

“I always feel sexy. I don’t have a problem with that. The problem in the last couple of weeks has been at the end of the day, I’ve been so tired all I want to do is sleep.”

Edwina’s foxtrot was criticised by the judges at the weekend and the politician thinks she would have fared better in the contest if she had been given sexy Latin routines instead.

She added to The Sun newspaper: “I’d have liked more dances like the tango, the salsa, the rumba – lovely. Ballroom drove me round the bend.”

Currie also denied reports of being at loggerheads with Nancy Dell’Olio, who finished bottom of the judges leaderboard on Sunday.

She said: “Nancy’s fine, I’m happy for her. She’s having a ball and that is lovely. There is not a smidgeon of rivalry. It’s all complete fabrication –as far as I know.”

However, Nancy is said to have gloated over Edwina’s departure and is now determined to win.

She reportedly told pals: “It’s one down and 12 more to go. I couldn’t be happier.”

A source added to the Daily Mirror newspaper: “She’s delighted to have escaped the chop – she was a bit worried when the judges scores came up.
“She has been determined to beat Edwina throughout and never saw her as a major threat in the competition.

“But now she’s gunning for the rest of the celebrity dancers – she’s had a few unlucky outings but behind the scenes she believes she has got what it takes to go all the way.”
