Stupidest storyline ever, or stroke of genius?
I’m referring of course to EastEnders’ latest keenly awaited whodunit; with Darren turning out to be baby George’s dad.
As of course we all know by now – and as Lisa announced right after the show on Friday – Darren was the subject of the big reveal, and everyone in my house issued a collective “no way!” or words to that effect, some of which began with F.
For me, the only two people who it could credibly have been were Billy or Minty; Phil just plain wouldn’t have, and Darren wasn’t even on my radar! I thought the writers had just lobbed him into the plot for a laugh…
In the 2nd February episode of this year, Darren turned 18 and had his birthday ruined when he found out Janine had taken ownership of the Car Lot, so one assumes then that his idea of solace a couple of weeks later was to do the do with Heather in R&R’s loos??
I think not.
But it was certainly unexpected when the dad turned out to be Darren, so I suppose the writers did well in that regard. And the whole cast and crew did a good job of keeping it under wraps too; usually no storyline gets to play out without someone giving away the ‘big secret’ but nobody had a Scooby about this one.
I was rather hoping it would turn out to be Minty really. I know we had that scene earlier this year during which Shirley smacked him one believing he was the daddy, and Heather had to publically announce it wasn’t him, but I had a flicker of hope for a happy ending there. Minty would make a great dad and maybe love could’ve grown for him and Heather with the arrival of baby George.
That said, from the writers’ point of view, I can see how that ending to this particular storyline would’ve been a bit trite, but again, Darren??!
Sorry but I just don’t buy it. Yes it made for a good shock in the reveal but for the basis of a whole storyline around George’s future? Nah, I don’t see it working.
What do you think? Was it just plain lame that Darren’s the daddy or was it a genius bolt from the blue?

Maybe in a way it’s a good story line with the fact it shows it doesn’t matter who does it and how old you are and it only takes once. but still doesnt look great. And i guess in a way it is fair to say some men will run away wether you want to think it or not.
This is the most dumbest storyline Eastenders has produced to date … I have been an avid fan of eastenders for more years than I care to remember and watched the Heather/baby daddy storyline unfold with great anticipation, (was really, really hoping for it to be Minty…)
Am very dissappointed with the outcome…..just really dumb……..
