Sunshine: a new drama on BBC One

Sunshine is a three-part drama co-written by Craig Cash and Phil Mealey, the team behind the BBC’s hit comedy Early Doors, and co-writers of the BAFTA award-winning The Royle Family.

Starring Steve Coogan (I’m Alan Partridge, Saxondale), Bernard Hill (Lord Of The Rings) and Lisa Millett (Drop Dead Gorgeous, Blackpool), Sunshine is the bittersweet story of three generations of the Crosby family.

Bing has been fascinated with gambling since he was a child. Bernadette was his childhood sweetheart and, in spite of his addiction, they have become a couple.

The family is completed by their eight-year-old son, Joe, and Bing’s father, George.

The relationship between grandson and grandad is a golden one – based on absolute trust and mutual affection.

But Bing’s gambling spirals out of control, his losses reach unsustainable levels, and the only thing left to lose is his wife and son.

The first episode was a great introducer steve coogan developed his character well to contrast the time spans. The second episode is a work of art the acting Bernard Hill is exceptional as is the chemistry between himself and Steve Coogan the overall episode will be engrained in British Soap History and if the final episode is as good it would be safe to say it will be receiving a Bafta.

A must buy, even after two episodes, though need we of even bothered to suggest that this show would be short of genius when it had world class writers and cast. I love it and it would be criminal not to make this into a future series.

  8. What a fabulous drama (Sunshine). New it would be good with Steve Craig Cash writing it and such good actors. Couldn’t wait for the next episode each week. So true to life - it didn’t seem like they were acting. Very well done.
