The fifth season of Supernatural will kick off on Living later this year, after Virgin Media scooped the rights from ITV2.

The channel also has exclusive rights to a possible sixth series, as well as the rights to air the first four series. They kick off with the pilot episode on Thursday August 6 at 9pm.

“Supernatural has had an awful lot of interest and, as the home of the best in paranormal drama, we’re thrilled to have secured it,” said Amy Barham, head of acquisitions for Virgin Media Television.

Creator Eric Kripke spoke out on the subject of a sixth series to E! News at Comic Con.

He said: “There was a five-year plan and we are in the fifth year of that story. This is the last chapter of this volume and we plan on telling it well and climactically, but we are certainly also batting around ideas and there’s no reason there can’t be another volume.”
