Filming has just begun on a sequel to Lynda La Plante’s ratings winning drama Above Suspicion, starring Kelly Reilly and Ciarán Hinds for ITV1.

The two part drama, Above Suspicion: The Red Dahlia, is adapted by award winning writer Lynda La Plante from her successful second novel about rookie detective, Anna Travis. It is produced by La Plante Productions.

Above Suspicion, which won audiences of more than seven million, introduced young and ambitious DC Anna Travis, who is fast-tracking her way through the ranks, eager to prove herself to be as successful as her late father.

What an awesome part Jason Durr played as psychopathic killer Alan Daniels in Lynda La Plante’s Above Suspicion, which reached its gritty conclusion last night!

I’ve seen Jason in many roles before – most notably as copper Mike in Heartbeat – but this role was award winning stuff if you ask me, with the possible exception of his sometimes dodgy Mancunian accent. However, that didn’t detract from how powerfully he portrayed the deeply disturbed Daniels, but more of that later.

We took up the drama again as Daniels took Anna to the ballet while, unbeknown to him, she was recording his every word. But even as she was on her guard and keen to draw him out, Anna began to doubt that the very charming and genteel actor could be responsible for such brutality. Read more & comment »

Last night saw the start of ITV1’s new Lynda La Plante two-part drama, Above Suspicion and, in case you missed it, here’s a recap and review.

Jason Durr stars as the prime suspect. Shaun Dingwall and Daniel Caltagirone play the murder squad detectives. The cast also includes John Savident, Michelle Holmes and Amanda Lawrence.

Former Coronation Street actor, John Savident has revealed that he would like to have stayed on in the show but bosses refused to givehim a lighter work load.

John played Fred Elliot on the show and says he approached show bosses about his decision to leave, hoping they would offer him some sort of deal, it didn’t happen.

“I did think they might find some way to accommodate me,” he told The People. “Quite honestly I was surprised and disappointed that they didn’t try a bit harder.

“I told them a year in advance that I was going and then they took me out for dinner and said, ‘We’re not going to insult you, John, by trying to make you stay’. And I’m sitting there thinking, ‘Please, go on, insult me’.”
