Fans of Emmerdale will know that Adam Barton (Adam Thomas) hates Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) primarily because it was his affair with Adam’s mum Moira that set into motion events that ended with the death of Adam’s dad, John Barton…

ITV has just released the first trailer for Emmerdale’s landmark 40th anniversary live episode, and we of course have it for you after the jump.

As fans of Emmerdale will know, most of the Barton family’s troubles can be traced back to Moira Barton’s affair with Cain Dingle, and in forthcoming episodes, an increasingly angry Adam Thomas “loses it” with Cain (Jeff Hordley) and nearly kills him.

However, Adam Thomas, who of course plays Adam Barton, has told Soaplife that when his character loses control and sets the garage on fire, trapping Cain inside, he soon realizes that he could have killed Cain, when all he wanted was to scare him.

He explained, “Adam still blames Cain for everything. It’s driving Adam mad that his family seem to be softening towards Cain because he took Holly to hospital when she OD’d.

“Moira even buys Cain a drink! And Adam’s like, ‘Are you all forgetting what he’s done? How he screwed up our family?’

In upcoming episodes of Emmerdale, the Barton family are in deep crisis as mum Moira (Natalie J Robb) can’t get past her grief over her husband John’s death, and Holly Barton (Sophie Powles) once again turns to drugs to help ease her own pain…

And Adam Barton (Adam Thomas) feels keenly his new found and unwanted role as man of the house, and as he sees everything around him crumbling, he focuses more and more on his rage against Cain Dingle.

We reported a while ago that Emmerdale bosses had a new arson storyline lined up, and at the time, all that was known was that a male character would set a fire to take revenge on one of the villagers.

But today, the Daily Star has exclusively revealed the plotline details, and they report that grieving Adam Barton will set fire to the garage where he believes Cain Dingle is trapped inside.

Emmerdale star Danny Miller has joked that his character’s best mate Adam Barton (Adam Thomas) is “gagging for it.”

In the show, Danny of course plays Aaron Livesy, who’s currently still trying to come to terms with the assisted suicide death of his lover Jackson Walsh, who was played by Marc Silcock.

Speaking to BANG Showbiz, Danny joked that he’d like to see Aaron and Adam get together at some point.

When he finds out that his daughter Mia is once again seeing cheating Adam Barton, doting dad Declan Macey vows to ruin the entire Barton family!

According to MSN, Declan – who’s played by Jason Merrells – will first learn that the couple are once again an item in forthcoming episodes, but of course, he knows that Adam had an affair with Mia’s mother Ella, but Mia has no idea.

Jason said of the storyline, “He’s [Declan] going to follow through on his threat, and his threat was he’s going to go for the whole family.”

As viewers will know, Declan agreed a business deal with John Barton, which it seems Declan now intends to get out of in order to ruin the family’s hope of ever owning their own farm. Read more & comment »
