BBC comedy Citizen Khan receives over 200 complaints from viewers who claim it’s offensive towards Muslims
The BBC’s new sitcom Citizen Khan is barely out of the box and it’s already been blasted by viewers who’re angry that it’s offensive towards Muslim people.
The PA reports that the comedy, which debuted on Monday night, has been accused of “taking the mickey out of Islam” and it was also criticised for apparently portraying a “heavily made-up girl” wearing a hijab.
200 official complaints have been made about the comedy so far, and the BBC’s online message forum and Twitter have provided an outlet for angry viewers, many of whom cite a scene in which the daughter of lead character Mr Khan (Adil Ray) rushes to put on a hijab and pretends to have been studiously reading a copy of the Koran when her father comes into the room… Read more & comment »
