Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley to leave Daybreak on Monday!

Axed Daybreak presenters Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley will present their last show on Monday, according to the Daily Mirror.

It had been expected that the duo would stay on the show for at least a month, however, it seems new boss David Kermode is happy to have them leave sooner rather than later.

A show insider told the paper, “It was felt that Adrian and Christine were better off out of there now that everyone knows they are going.

“There’s nothing to be gained by keeping them on the sofa.”

Bleakly will now go on to co-present Dancing On Ice, while Chiles will continue to cover live football events on ITV.

The Daily Mail adds, “It will be seen as a huge embarrassment for all concerned after the pair left BBC1′s One Show in the summer of last year in what was seen at the time to be a huge coup for ITV.” Read more & comment »

ITV officially confirm Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley axed from Daybreak

Well, it was of course widely expected, but today, ITV made it official; Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles have indeed been ditched as the presenters of ailing breakfast show, Daybreak.

However, in the channel’s official statement about the couple being axed, ITV chose to put a positive spin on the news, saying, “Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley to focus on ITV1 peak time.”

So, in a nutshell, ITV paid big bucks for ‘em, and they’re gonna keep them – or move them sideways – until they’ve had their money’s worth.

The channel reports that Adrian “will prioritise” his role as the main presenter of ITV’s live football coverage, as well as hosting what’s described as “topical discussion show”, That Sunday Night Show, will is set to return to ITV1 for a third run in 2012.

Christine meanwhile “will focus” on co-presenting of Dancing on Ice alongside Phillip Schofield, and she’ll also host Westlife: For The Last Time, as well as co-presenting ITV’s charity initiative, Text Santa. Read more & comment »

Daybreak seemingly no nearer to choosing new presenters!

Hot on the heels of reports stating that Eamonn Holmes was in the running to take over from Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles as one of the new hosts of Daybreak, it’s now been reported that he’s just signed a new three year contract with Sunrise and Sky News.

So I guess that rules him out then.

On his own website, Eamonn wrote, “Being so associated with breakfast television for so long, there is often speculation linking me to other vacancies when they occur.

“I have had a really exciting, fulfilling , and happy six years at Sky News and with today’s signing of a new contract, I am delighted to continue hosting ‘Sunrise with Eamonn Holmes’ for at least another three.”

However, according to the Sun today, ITV news presenter Keir Simmons is being considered for the Daybreak sofa, as is Channel 5 News host Matt Barbet… Read more & comment »

Odds on for Natasha Kaplinsky and Eamonn Holmes to replace Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles on Daybreak!

As speculation increases around a change of personnel at ITV’s Daybreak, Paddy Power has started taking bets on who could replace Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles.

Adrian Chiles bizarrely blames “dark forces” for leaking news of his Daybreak axing

As you’re probably aware by now, Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley have reportedly been axed from Daybreak…

However, The Sun reports that the news of their sacking was leaked to the press before they themselves were told.

Christine Bleakley tweeted, “Morning, what a lovely headline to wake up to. My sarcasm comes across I hope x.”

While Chiles told a Sunday tabloid that, “Dark forces have leaked it for their own ends.”

I wonder if these dark forces are the same ones that conspiracy theorists reckon assassinated Princess Diana??

Or maybe Adrian’s just lost the plot, royally. I mean, let’s face it, it’s hardly Watergate is it? And there’s not a grassy knoll in sight as far as I can tell…

The words, ‘grip’ and ‘get a’ spring to mind. Read more & comment »

At last! Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley axed by Daybreak chiefs!

Well, it’s been a long time in coming, but it was always inevitable; Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles have been ditched by Daybreak’s ITV bosses.

Christine and Adrian – who formerly hosted BBC’s The One Show – have been a disaster from the get-go, and were never popular with viewers, who tuned out in their droves when GMTV became Daybreak.

And of course, as part of the multi-million pound re-brand, ITV bosses sacked a raft of familiar GMTV faces, and brought in Chiles and Bleakley instead. Error.

In the year they’ve been at the sofa’s reigns, viewing figures have dropped to a startling low of around 350,000. Which, given that Adrian received a £6mn contract, and Christine a deal worth £4mn, is kinda shocking. Read more & comment »

Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley could be axed from Daybreak

It’s been reported today that ITV bosses are considering axing presenting duo Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley from their hosting roles on failing Daybreak.

The show – which was of course a revamp of the former GMTV – has recorded increasingly poor viewing figures, and according to the Daily Mirror, ITV executive Peter Fincham called both Chiles and Bleakley into a meeting to discuss the issue.

The paper reports that Fincham warned the duo they may be axed in forthcoming weeks if viewer ratings don’t improve.

However, it seems the driving force behind the possible axing comes from new producer Karl Newton, who has been brought in by ITV to perform a shake-up of the show. He will soon be joined behind the scenes by his colleague, David Kermode.

It’s thought that Kate Garraway’s job could also be under threat, and that Newton is considering bringing in former Sky News presenter Helen Fospero to replace Kate. Read more & comment »

Daybreak: Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles fired from Fridays?

Daybreak bosses have reportedly forced presenters Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles to work just a four-day week, so that they can trial other hosts on a Friday.

Executives are said to be worried about the falling ratings of the breakfast TV show and want to see if a Friday edition, with Kate Garraway and Dan Lobb, will have any extra appeal for viewers.

An ITV source told the Daily Mail newspaper: “This is symptomatic of just how difficult things are on ‘Daybreak’ at the moment. We need to recapture the warmth of ‘GMTV’ and viewers adore Kate, especially when she is teamed with Dan.

ITV bosses to revamp Daybreak and shift Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley to evening show?

ITV bosses are reportedly planning to shift Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley from their morning slot on Daybreak, to an evening show which will rival their old BBC’s The One Show.

The commercial TV channel poached the pair from the Beeb last year and placed them at the forefront of their new breakfast TV show. However, ratings have fallen and the format has not proved popular and now thoughts are that the network would be better bringing in a few unknown faces, while moving Bleakley and Chiles to a different spot.
