Of course the finale wasn’t without its fair share of drama, however.

The genius behind ITV sensational hit period drama, Downton Abbey, Nigel Marchant, has revealed that he wants the show to end on a high-note.

Allen Leech, who stars in Downton Abbey as chauffeur and rebel Branson, has revealed that although he tends not to be recognised in the street, he has a dedicated band of followers on Twitter…
And two of them have asked him to marry them!
Allen – whose character is head over heels in love with Lady Sybil – told The Sun, “I’ve honestly not been recognised once — but it’s a different story on Twitter.
“I’ve had two marriage proposals so far, and I’m still making my mind up.
“I don’t actually know these women, so it might be a bit strange to accept a marriage proposal from someone I haven’t met.
“Can you imagine what it would be like at the register office? ‘Do you, @allenleech, take you, @MrsX…’?” Read more & comment »

Downton Abbey actor Allen Leech has been telling What’s On TV magazine what it’s like playing political activist and Crawley family chauffeur, Branson.
And during the course of the conversation, Allen let slip that in next Sunday’s episode, Branson will ask Lady Sybil (Jessica Brown-Findlay) to run away with him!
Of that plotline, Allen said, “After laying his cards on the table in the first episode – he took his hat off and everything – you can see he’s completely in love and infatuated with Lady Sybil.
“He did get a rebuttal at first, but being a headstrong Irishman he doesn’t give up. There is a fire and spirit about Sybil which appeals to him.
“She’s interested in politics and he stokes that. He is quite well educated, and throughout the series we see him constantly questioning her and a definite bond growing between them.
“Whether they do get together, and can cross the class divide, is essentially the personal drama for Branson… Read more & comment »
